Trading Gone Wrong Today

I was initially up $45. Got greedy and started to get aggressive and traded big lots. Threw my trading rule book out of the window. So what could possibly happen, happened. Big losses! Now I'm back to where I started. Got to pick up that rule book and eat it.

Here Comes 2011

We can't change our past, but we can definitely change the way we start. Everyone loves a new beginning, don't we? At least I do. It feels refreshing. No matter how many mistakes we have made, failures we have faced, we could learn from them, put them away and start afresh. For me, last year wasn't really fruitful, so I hope to make it better this year.

Well, I don't really set new year resolutions but I set my own goals. My main focus this new year would be on stock trading. I aim to make $5000 in profits by the end of the year. Not a big sum of money because I'm starting out with a small risk capital. You know after some time, I get tired of the day to day job and because I have bills to pay and mouths to feed, I am job dependent. I am giving myself 5 years to grow my trading account so that my job becomes a choice. Though I don't hate my job, I have personal goals in life and I want to achieve more to make the most out of my potential capabilities.

2011, here I come. Happy New Year!

God Comes First

In today's Gospel where Jesus tells us that if we do not hate our father and mother, our wife and children, our brothers and sisters, and even our own life, we cannot be his disciple. Of course we do not take it literally. The passage from Luke 14:26 simply reminds us that we should place God as first priority in our life. We find ourselves too "busy" with our lives that we have forgotten about Him. Busy with work, generating wealth, social commitments, surfing the internet, reading gossips and newspapers but have no time for the bible or prayer. I took some time to think through and indeed, I have also neglected Him most of the time. I will have to put in more effort to pray daily and also devote some time to read the Bible. You will be surprised by the lessons you could learn about life from it.

I enjoyed my day by spending a great afternoon with my family over a good meal at Jack's Place. My brother and I ordered the Jack's Place Special Steak with a delicious bowl of Shitake mushroom soup. The steak and the soup cost about $29. (Argh... didn't take pictures). Thanks to my grandaunt who gave us this treat! Ended the evening with another great meal with my wife and friends at Astons specialties at The Cathay. I had the Chargrilled Salmon Fillet. For $12.90, it is really worth it. After dinner, we sat down at Starbucks and I sipped my 'long time no drink', Caffè mocha. Satisfied. Resting early and getting ready for work tomorrow.

You Are Your Greatest Asset

Mr Rohn, although we may not know each other in person, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have taught me. May the Lord grant you eternal peace and joy.

Mr Rohn's mentor, Mr Shoaff, once said to him, "Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job."

I was thinking to myself, "I want to be wealthy and happy too, but how do I do that? Working harder on myself than in my job?" Personal development has been my lifetime study, challenge and commitment ever since. Pity the man whose income grew but he didn't. Usually we ask ourselves what we will be getting for the work we do, but seldom on what kind of person we are becoming. In my opinion, most people couldn't care less about personal development. Do they even know what it is. It is not about earning big money or achieving great things in order to be happy. But being happy and staying positive while you are broke and going through a rough period would involve certain level of personal development.

So what exactly is personal development? Character, philosophy, attitude, behaviour, manners, intelligence, knowledge and the list goes on. I haven't exactly figured out but to me, it is developing every aspect that makes me a person.

I was taught that success is to be attracted rather than to be pursued. If I become, I can attract. Therefore, one of the axioms of life I live by:

To have more than you've got, become more than you are.

A Chance To Start Over

I guess we all need to give ourselves another chance to start over at some point in time. Especially in moments when we are down and deemed that there is no hope, be it in our relationships, our careers, or simply anything. Most of the time when we are on the verge of giving up, perhaps it's our human nature or divine intervention, that we manage to find strength to pick ourselves up again.

My trading took a dip recently and I have to start learning from basics again. I believe that as long as we do not give up, we can always start over and work on our weaknesses.
